How to say 'I love you' in Binary:
One day, in a land, time and matrix far, far, far from here, now and within, a very strange phenomenon occured. Very strange indeed. Everything was tremendously advanced. Everything was tremendously smart. Everything was tremendously efficient. The machines. The work. The business. The robotics. My word! The computers had gotten so advanced that they nearly stood on the cusp of challenging human consciousness. The computers just kept getting smarter and smarter. It was an uncanny paradox that the more advanced this little world became, technologically, the less and less the people of this little world felt. Truly felt. You see, each and every individual in this little world had and carried upon them little devices. These devices gave them complete and entire access to the matrix. And, having on their body, the ability to access any information desired, instead, they used these devices for entertainment, for pleasure. No one even saw it coming. This numbing of the intelligence, this numbing of feeling, this estrangement to other individuals. It severed them from true connection. Connection with other people. Until, one day, the prophecies rang true. There was darkness.. And in a little world where, hitherto, there had been so much light, all simply switched off. The heads of the robots slumped. The screens of the computers fizzled. The light all across this little world simply gave out. And, for a few hours, the land dwelt in complete darkness. Following, a light crept eagerly across the horizon.
"What is this?" The little inhabitants of this world began to ask.
Until, the sky was lit, lit from east to west. The inhabitants of the little world were shocked. Indeed, some had forgotten. Others had never even seen the sun! The day was called Y3K. Even still, there was a bit of nostalgia about it. As though the term had been used before. Miraculously, each and every inhabitant of the little world immediately dropped their devices, gazed up. For the first time, for the second time, people gazed up and saw others around them. Amazed, they began to hug and embrace one another, holding hamds and patting backs.
Now, in a land far from here, in a matrix without, computers had been brought to a primitive function once again. As a reminder. They serve us. We were never meant to serve them. The only function of computers now was written in binary. A very basic language.
Until, two, very special individuals of this little world encountered an ancient, moss covered computer in a cave one day. One of them knew a bit about computers. From the old days. And when he pressed the power button, the screen fizzled on. His friend, at his sife stood aback. "Be careful!" She said. He embraced her and fiddled with the keyboard, typing on it hesitantly. Try and try as he would, he could not get the computer to do anything other than simple binary code.
And so, the lady next to him watched as he mysteriously typed for a moment. And then, upon the screen, fizzled into focus a series of 1s and 0s. After which, the numbers too fizzled into a big heart.
"What did you write?" She asked him.
"I wrote 'I love you' in binary."
Now, the sun was setting. And they watched in awe as the artificial lights, which had filled the sky, night and day, even drowing out the sun, prior to Y3K, began to fizzle on slowly. Here and there. This time, they knew their place. Only coming on at night. The individuals of this little world rejected the idea of hand held devices. The individuals of this little world put computers, robotics and AI in its plaace as a servant.
And so, our story, one, which began very far from here, in a time distant from now, and in a matrix far and without, concludes with these two special individuals of this little world, a man and his best friend, stood tightly upon the crest of a hill over this cave, the sun setting behind them, as they kiss passionately.
Fin!
